ABOUT GAME

Building Hope is a game of building and managing a refugee camp. A strategy game in the City-Builder category, Frostpunk and Banished games can be given as inspirations.

In the game, the player can choose one of the different maps under various scenarios and start the game. Each map has a story and a main mission under it.

Each map in the game has different dynamics; For example, while providing clean water for its refugees is a constant problem in refugee camps in Africa, a refugee camp in Sweden experiences cold weather and political tensions.

The player plays the role of a United Nations official who is tasked with establishing these refugee camps and managing the camp under difficult conditions.

MISSION OF THE GAME

The game has two missions;

1- The player personally experiences the stories of the refugees, observing the difficulties of the lives given as statistics in the news.

2- The player’s realization that everyone is a possible refugee. For example, while the maps set in Africa are about refugee crises in the past, our fictional scenario named “New Hansa”; It is about the European refugees who want to take shelter in the Scandinavian peninsula, fleeing the increasing unemployment and the pressure of the radical right governments that have come to power in Europe in the near future with automation technologies. Today, North African refugees trying to escape to Europe and drowning in the Mediterranean are replaced by European refugees, who, according to the scenario, try to escape from Europe to the Scandinavian countries and drown in the Baltic Sea. We aim to make the player feel that they may be in a similar situation in the future.

DESIGN APPROACH OF THE GAME

Since the player is a United Nations official, the UI is mostly paper-like. There is no standard texture we use for paper, any paper texture can be used if desired.

In addition, tent-fabric texture can also be used in camps due to the abundance of tents.

As can be seen in the images, there is always a dirt texture and a broken atmosphere in the camps. For this reason, slightly erased lines can be used on the website instead of lines that look like they were drawn with a perfect ruler.

One of the main elements in the content design of the game is that refugee camps are or could be in various parts of the world. While the story of one camp takes place in arid African lands, another takes place under the snow in cold northern Europe. Therefore, it would be better to use colors and designs that are compatible with many geographies of the world rather than focusing on only one camping theme.

We don’t have a specific Font type that we use. However, if document-document design is to be used on the website, a font that gives the appearance of typewriting can be used.
